On the Beaten Path: Great Falls Park

On the Beaten Path: Great Falls Park – I started my adult life in Washington, D.C. working on Capitol Hill for a U.S. Senator and still have friends in the area. I love to return there and marvel at the natural and man-made wonders from time to time. During a recent visit, I dropped into Great Falls Park, on the Maryland side, and the recent rains had swollen the river to a remarkable state. The water was literally brown from the force of the river coming off the bedrock of the Piedmont upriver.

The Potomac River, one of America’s great free-flowing rivers

I had planned to just drop in for a short visit to the serene park and take a few photos. But, the force of the river compelled me, without my camera bag or tripod, to shoot a video. I hope you enjoy it! Grab a cup of tea and sit back and experience my humble nature video.

I’ve titled this video ON the beaten path because, not only has the 12-foot wide towpath been there since the early 1800’s, but, you literally must stay on the pathways in the park, no swimming or wading. It’s far too dangerous. Many lives have been lost in the river, so this special place is one to experience from the safety of the pathways.
