The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

The good, the bad, and the ugly: The chopped and melted buckwheat is reseeding itself on my flower island. I think that’s a good thing;

The good, the bad and the ugly - buckwheat

Buckwheat reseeded and is sprouting again

My Brandywine tomato plant, the really huge one, has Blossom End Rot (thank you to a blogger who wrote in and told me). That’s bad;

The good, the bad, and the ugly - blossom end rot

Huge batch of tomatoes with blossom end rot, caused by overwatering

A critter, a suspected raccoon, seen casing the hood a month ago, stole one of my baby watermelons, and left the scraps 30 feet away from my patch in front of my neighbors steps. That was ugly;

Watermelon eaten by critter

…Especially when my melon crop is greatly reduced from earlier expectations. The good, the bad and the ugly of gardening is an adventure, and well worth it! Thanks for reading! Please share! – Kaye

  1. Hi Kaye, been watching your videos today with my Dad, a no-nonsense Yorkshireman who’s visiting but had to be dragged away kicking and screaming from his garden. His comments were “tha lass knows her onions, tha knows and she’s reet more bonny than Alan Titchmarsh”. Haven’t stopped laughing about it all day!

    • I’m laughing and I don’t even know who Alan Titchmarsh is! And I haven’t even tried growing onions! Does bonny mean I look better than Alan? I would SO like to visit your dad’s garden!! Can you post a photo of it on https://www.facebook.com/LateBloomerShow? Tell your dad I’m right well pleased! 🙂

      • You look tons more glamorous than Alan Titchmarsh who is a television gardening guru in the UK – introduces the RHS Chelsea Flower Show no less. Will get him on the photos when he gets back, he’s been complaining as everything in his garden hasn’t gone to plan because of all the rain – says even his wisteria is coming into flower again

      • I checked out Alan. At least he’s got a show, that’s my next step! 🙂

    Hey Kaye, I heard of a trick for melons….get some used pantyhose and place your melon inside it, they’ll grow along w/ the melon…and the critters don’t understand/like the nylon so they *supposedly* leave them be. I gave up on melons here long ago since we have such a short growing season.
